A Face to Light up the Darkness
"Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord."
Psalm 89:15
My youngest daughter's face was beaming! She had just returned from a high school speech contest in which she had excelled. Her medal shone, but not as brightly as her face.
When Moses came down from Mt. Sinai, folks had to cover his face because of the glow. When the Apostle Paul met God on the road to Damascus he was blinded by an incredibly bright light. When the Apostle John caught his vision of heaven, he saw God as a brilliant Light, seated on the throne. Indeed John elsewhere says "God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all."
David here speaks of walking in the light of God's presence or "countenance". Four times this phrase, "light of your countenance" occurs in the Psalms and by it the Psalmist suggests light that emanates from God's face. Indeed, it was enough light to enable God's people to walk in an otherwise dark world. It will enable you to do the same. The "glow of God" upon your face will lighten the road before you and reflect the light of God to those around you. Seek God's face. In the light of His presence your own face will glow.
