Genesis: Birthing 101
"With the help of the Lord,
I have brought forth a man."
Genesis 4:1
I took the class. One night a week, I accompanied my wife, with pillow and blanket in tow, to our local hospital where birthing classes were being offered. I asked, "Why do I need to go, honey? You're the one having the baby." She replied, in so many words, "Listen, if I'm going to go through all this to have our baby, the least you can do is to come and learn how you can help me." How can any responsible husband reject such argument? So I went to the classes and I learned. When the time came, I was informed; I was ready and I helped. I held my wife’s hand!
Moms have been doing it ever since Eve delivered Cain and they have done with or without their husbands’ help. No mother, however, brings forth a child without God's help. I missed one of our births and our Doctor came late for another. We’re both dispensable, but not God. He is the Creator and Deliverer of life.
We've experienced six births now and I learned that I could be of more help than I previously thought. Nevertheless, my wife could have given birth without me, but she could never have given birth without the help of the Lord.
