Doctors of Praise

"...through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace
in which we now stand.
And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God."
Romans 5:2

Did you know that the English words ‘doctor' and ‘doxology' are related? The first half of both words comes from the same Greek root that means "to seem" or "to form an opinion". In the case of doxology we have in mind a very high opinion set to music and words (logia), hence a hymn of praise. In the case of a doctor we have in mind an individual whose opinion we highly trust.

What's your opinion of God? Granted, in some sense our opinion of God doesn't matter, but allow me this liberty to make a point. If you were His doctor, would you not give a high opinion of Him - a ‘clean bill of health'? How could you possibly chide him for not sticking with his diet and exercise program? Of course. He is perfect and His glory is beyond us! The point I am making is that our opinions of God, when rightly measured and expressed, become doxologies of praise. We become ‘doctors of praise', sharing our opinions of His glory. And this praise, this glory, is our hope. Glory to God from doctors of praise.
