Take a Load Off
"Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies - make straight your way before me." Psalm 5:8Lead. As a verb, it's an action of showing the way. As a noun, it's a heavy metal. Believe it, or not, the words and ideas are related. They come from similar language roots having to do with guiding a journey. They are related in this way: the noun is the burden of the verb. The leader is the laden one. In other words, the one who would lead bears the weight of that leadership.
The Psalmist cries out to the Lord from beneath the burden of being one's own leader. The weight of it all is too great. He does not have the right "metal" to withstand the pressures. He is not righteous and therefore cannot lead in that path.
Neither can you. Try and lead your own way through this world and you will be buried by the weight of it all. Only Christ can bear that burden, because only he is righteous. Take a load off! Let him lead!
