That Burning in Your Mouth
"O taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who take refuge in him." Psalm 34:8The salad bar looked average. "Oh well," I thought to myself, "nothing that some good thousand island dressing cannot improve. I reached for the ladle, hesitating only slightly because the dressing seemed yellowish. The ladle, however, clearly said, "Thousand Island," so I charged ahead, taking a healthy spoonful. Moments later at my table, you would have noticed my face wince, and then turn red, at my first mouthful of salad topped not with dressing, as I expected, but with hot mustard sauce! Sweet trick. I wondered who in the restaurant might be watching with glee at my fall for their trickery! For the next half-hour I 'smoked' while I ate.
The devil fools us into selecting one thing when we think that we are getting another. Instead of the desired taste we expected we are left with a burning in our mouths.
When God sets the table there is nothing but pleasant surprise and good taste. Open his Word, the bread of life, today. Eat and see! The Lord is truly good!
