A Partisan Word Concerning the EFCA and the NCD
“…if you are led by the Spirit . . ."
Galatians 5:18
…you will certainly end up in the EFCA and likely in the NCD (North Central District)! I'm not quite that partisan! Nevertheless, I sought the Spirit's guidance in making my choice. Two reasons stand out for casting my lot with the EFCA. The first is doctrinal. I am in hearty agreement with all twelve articles in the EFCA statement of faith. Further, the strong emphasis upon the authority of Scripture and the need for a personal conversion experience are distinctives that I believe must be central in theology. In areas less critical I am still supportive. For instance, congregational polity, while not a hill I would chose to die on, is in my mind harmonious with the Bible and very workable.
A second reason for choosing the EFCA is its people. The longer I am associated with the EFCA and the more Free Church people and their deep-rooted desire to do the will of God is commendable. Three pastors, now all in the EFCA, have all played a role in my choice. My respect for and friendship with them preceded my choice in favor of this denomination.
I am continuing to be become better acquainted with the Free Church schools, mission, nursing homes, etc. Everything I see is something I can be proud of and wholeheartedly support. I find the EFCA to be a denomination, from the grass roots to Headquarters, I can serve in with perfect confidence that while it may not be the only place to minister, it certainly suits me fine.
When asked for a word on the North Central District of the EFCA I must acknowledge that it is about all I know about the EFCA as a whole. Having seen little of other districts, I can only assume that the NCD have represented the EFCA well to me. All I have said above applies to the NCD. Beyond that, I love Minnesota. It is my home and I cheer for the Vikings. I guess I am glad that the NCD is here! I have grown to appreciate and respect our leadership, for both their competence and love for the Lord and for the Lord's people.
