Summer is over and it is time to get back to the routine. School begins and vacations are history. Summer is usually a time for doing, going, seeing, driving, swimming, eating. Summer is a time when we try to get away, to do something different and exciting!
But September, what is that? It is getting back to the basics. It is coming home to reality. I enjoy September because it is the start of a new year. Oh, I know that the date doesn’t change until January, but September is a great time for a fresh start, time to reflect on the summer and get back to work.
Likewise, in our Christian lives, we need September seasons. If we are not careful we can get away from the routines / spiritual disciplines of Christ followers: prayer, Bible reading and study, worship attendance. Suddenly we can be brought up short and be reminded that is it is time to get back to making our “Christianity”, our walk with the Lord our first priority.
Sometimes we get too wrapped up in “doing” rather than “being”. Doing has been defined as “activity and accomplishments—tangible results.” Being, however is “intangible”, the kind of people we are deep inside, when no one is looking.
Perhaps this summer you have been emphasizing the doing. Now with the coming of Fall, let’s concentrate on being who we are in Jesus Christ. Being the person God has called us to be: student, spouse, employee, employer, or friend. As the Trinity family Pastor Don will challenge us this fall to “Be the Church.”
